What is SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical procedure used as a remedy for thinning hair-to include but not limited to receding hairlines, baldness and alopecia-on both men and women. The procedure is designed to camouflage transplant scarring, provide a thicker appearance for remaining hair and create the look of close-cropped hair.
SMP is completed using a super micro needle and special ink(s) and is most often associated with that of a tattoo. Often appearing in the form os small precise dots, the pigments are applied to the scalp mimicking the appearance of naturally occurring hair follicles growing from the skin.
SMP is often attributed to those with saved heads, or those having short hair but the application is actually much more robust and can even benefit those with long hair by establishing the illusion of thicker hair especially in the areas where bald spots or thinning is apparent.
How long does Scalp Micropigmentation last?
The scalp micropigmentation will last between 7-10 years. The initial procedure consists of 3 sessions (some exceptions may exist depending on level of effort and desired aesthetic) with the second and third sessions occurring 2-12 weeks after the first, primarily accounting for healing. A touch-up is highly recommended every 3-5 years to maintain your desired consistent appearance.
